I’m a grant writer, author, journalist, researcher, and visual arts curator. I’ve published several books, including Waking Up in Memphis and the Sewing School DIY series. Sewing School: 21 Sewing Projects Kids Will Love to Make, co-written with Amie Plumley, is a bestseller published in several languages.

My articles have appeared in the Guardian, Wax Poetics, the Oxford American, MOJO Magazine, Paste, the Memphis Flyer, the Commercial Appeal, Garden & Gun, Living Blues, Grand Royal, and Stop Smiling. When I’m not writing, I’m listening to music, watching old movies, cooking, or hanging out with my friends or my dog. I live in Memphis, Tennessee, one of the greatest cities in the world.
